  • Industrial Talk - Exploring the Power of Ansys Multiphysics: From Simulation to Digital Twin Innovation by CADFEM India

    Prof. Philippe Odier from the Department of Physics, ENS Lyon, France presented the work done on selection of textiles for the suits used by cyclists at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also explained various scenarios of 'drafting,' which refers to the reduction in effort experienced by a cyclist when riding behind another. The talk concluded with a discussion on the extraction of the instantaneous positions of the riders on the track during a race using automatic video tracking.

  • 42 Explained! - Combinatorial Designs: From Agriculture to Quantum Mechanics by Prof. Arul Lakshminarayan

    Prof. Arul Lakshminarayan from the Department of Physics presented Euler's famous 36 officers problem and the history of orthogonal Latin squares, including their surprising quantum twist. The talk culminated in a recent result showing that a quantum solution exists even for the unsolvable case of order 6.

He showed how even today new research fields are born and why it is an exciting time to be a researcher.

  • Industrial Visit - Danfoss Industries

    The scholars of our department went on a one-day visit to Danfoss Industries, Pvt. Ltd. at Odagadam, Chennai. They were given a detailed overview of the processes and the cutting edge technology used as well as insights into energy efficient solutions for motor control, off-highway machinery, refrigerating, heating, and air conditioning.

  • Research Palooza

    5th July 2024

    Research palooza was a day long celebration of all the research that goes on in the AMBE dept. It started with a plenary talk by Dr. Raghunathan Rengaswamy (Dept. of Chemical Engg. IITM) followed by Sci-Tech exposium (AMSA's version of TedTalks) and Poster Presentation Competitions. The final event was Scientific Illustation workshop by Megha Ramachandran. The event concluded with the felicitation of competition winners.

  • APL Matches

    The season of AMSA Premier League, our department's very own cricket league kicked off with the player auctions. After observing the players in practice matches, the team captains competed in a fierce auction to form their best teams.

  • Industrial Visit Daimler

    9th February 2024

    An industrial visit was organised at the Daimler facility in Odagadam. The scholars were able to view the Engine Assembly, Transmission Assembly, Spot Welding and MIG wedling lines after a presentation on the overall prcoess flow at the facility. The scholars also got an opportunity to ask questions and interact with the employees.

  • Faculty Guidance Talk 3 - Working towards Awards

    There are various national and institute level awards for student researchers. Since many of our scholars are not aware of these awards, we invited Prof Sarith P Sathian to provide guidance on how to work towards acheiving them. We also invited winners of the IR award, Nikhilesh, Nehal and Pijush to share their valuable experience.

  • 3D Printing Workshop

    13th October 2023

    Since our department has procured a new 3D printer, we organised a 3D printing workshop. Mr Dharmi Chand and Ms Smruti Parimita, both PhD scholars from our department, who are experienced with 3D printing technology were invited to conduct this workshop. They provided a hands on demonstration so that their fellow scholars can then use the device for their projects.

  • Placement Meet

    8th October 2023

    The members of the placement team of the Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering met with scholars of the department who registered for placement and those that intend to do so. In this session, the scholars got introduced to the placement team who helped them get to speed with the upcoming process. Team members who had also been part of last years placements shared experiences to help the scholars feel comfortable and ready to face the challanges this year

  • Industrial Visit - Ashok Leyland

    THe AMSA team organised an industrial visit to Ashok Leyland in Ennore. The scholars were able to visit the Engine Section and the Assembly Section in the factory.

Having recently joined after completing their postdocs, they enthusiastically shared various tips for hunting postdoc opportunities and their experiences.

  • Chandrayaan 3 Launch Visit

    The first activity organised by AMSA this year was a visit to ISRO's Sriharikota Launch View Gallery. A total of 52 participants had a thrilling experience watching the historic launch of Chandrayaan 3.
